Growing up heavier was never easy for me. Although I was probably only a size 8 in grade school, I constantly felt as if people didn't like me simply because I was too "fat." After I went to college, I gained the freshman 15 (make that the freshman 30) and continued to gain weight after I left college. By then I was about 200 pounds and counting. Finally in 1995 I decided that I would once and for all lose the weight. Enter the famous Phen-Fen. Sure, I lost the weight, and felt fabulous about myself as I reached an all time adult low of 160. When it was taken off the market because people were dying and all, I ballooned back up to 220 over the next few years. It wasn't until I had a failed relationship that I tried again. This time I lost weight with the help of Metabolife. Always looking for a quick fix, I never learned how to eat right or exercise, but once again I was "thin", but not healthy. And once again, I gained the weight back and then some.
In July of 2007 I decided that I was not going to take this anymore. I got on my scale one morning and saw a weight that I didn't even think was possible for me - I weighed a whopping 254!! That is when I signed up for Weight Watchers, which for me was the perfect combination of moderation, willpower, and the occasional splurge. I was doing great in the beginning - and had lost almost 30 pounds - when suddenly I came to a standstill. I just wasn't working the program anymore and had gone back to the my regular way of eating. Just recently I have gotten back on track and have committed to lose the weight in a healthy way. No more fad diets, no more quick fixes... just me and my commitment to low calorie foods, exercise, and a better overall health. I am still on Weight Watchers, and follow the plan accordingly. It allows me to eat in moderation but still have a few of my favorite foods. I have learned about calories, point totals, and what makes a food healthy or not. This is my turning point! |
Once upon a time, there was a chunky girl. She was a heck of a lot of fun. This chunky girl decided that she wanted to not be so chunky anymore and she got together with a friend and started a web site. Then along came another chunky girl. She was a mess. She liked the web site and the first chunky girl. They became fast friends. Chunky girl 1 needed some help on the web site, and soon Chunky girl 1 and Chunky Girl 2 were partners in crime. And health. Fast forward a couple of months and here lies the current site that you see today.

If you would like to offer products for us to review or for our readers to try out, please feel free to contact us so we can make that happen. I had the picture perfect life while I was growing up. I was active, had tons of friends and wore a size 3 all through high school. I stayed the same size by crash dieting and otherwise starving myself. Very unconventional during that time. You see, I grew up in the mid-west. I was raised on meat and potatoes. Every family function revolved around food. If you were feeling sad, you ate sweets to make it all better. If you were happy, you had a huge meal to celebrate. Someone dies, gets married, gives birth...you guessed it, FOOD! This life lead me down a very bulky road when I got older.
I moved to Florida right after high school, got married, had kids and then realized that I had some serious issues with food, and a poor family history of various food related maladies. In 2007, I reached my all time high weight of 207. I recall that day on the scale very miserably. I cried. For hours. Literally. I was miserable, unhappy and fat and I certainly didn't feel like much of a Queenie. It was that day that changed my life. I made a commitment to myself to change. Right then and there. I scoured every book and website that I could find and began eliminating the junk that I was putting into my body. Within 3 months of that fateful day, I was a full fledged vegetarian. I haven't felt better and I haven't looked back. I think that I bring an interesting mix to Wicked Weighs in that I am not following a structured diet plan. I made lifetime changes. My "diet" is about 50% raw and completely meat free. I rarely take medicines but chose to use natural herbs and vitamins for medical needs. So, you can consider me the resident hippy. Just don't put daisies in the crown. They make it hard to polish. :) |
