A Few Tidbits…

First - my personal congratulations to Gypsie for winning the Lipton Bike!  Gypsie - I really need your address so that you can get it sent to you smile I emailed you but you haven’t gotten back to me, so just in case I wanted to post it here.  Send it to me at by the end of Wednesday or we’ll have to pick another winner - which I totally don’t want to do to you!  Thanks smile

Second - Where the heck are you guys?  Boohoo - no comments lately, and it is so not like you all!  Amy, Java, Indy, Jasmine - hell yeah, I’m calling you out!  C’mon now - what’s up with the weight loss, are you doing well?  Do you need a little motivation?  Are you just taking a break?  We’re here to help smile I see that a lot of people have signed up lately, but yet you haven’t showed yourself!  Brigitte, Marie, amalmallo, bubbabutt (love that name, lol) and a few others but you haven’t commented.  We LOVE new members and we want to see more of you!

So today we’re having an official coming out party for our new members.  Why don’t you come out of lurking status and tell us a little about yourself!  We don’t bite wink And in fact, you may find us rather nice!

Third - I wanted to tell you about a book that just came in my mailbox today that I was really excited about - “Eat This Not That” - This book rocks! I found out a ton of stuff that I didn’t know - like the Sierra Turkey sandwich from Panera Bread that I get that I thought was healthy?  Um, not so much!  Here is an excerpt from Amazon that tells you the details of the book

Americans spend more than $400 billion a year eating out, and behind each burger, turkey sandwich, and ice cream sundae is a simple decision that could help you control your weight—and your life. The problem is, restaurant chains and food producers aren’t interested in helping you make healthy choices. In fact, they invest $30 billion a year on advertising, much of it aimed at confusing eaters and disguising the fat and calorie counts of their products.

All of that has changed with EAT THIS, NOT THAT!. This book puts the entire food industry under the spotlight, and arms you with the savvy tricks and insider information it takes to eat well no matter where you are. With EAT THIS, NOT THAT! you’re the expert in every eating situation, from the frozen food aisle to your favorite fast food joint to your local sports bar. You control your food universe—and lose the pounds you want--because, unlike every other customer, you’ll know the smart choices to make—instantly!

EAT THIS, NOT THAT! is jam-packed with secrets the restaurant industry doesn’t want you to know. For example:
• Burger King doesn’t want you to know that a BK Big Fish® Sandwich and fries have a whopping 1000 calories—nearly half your daily caloric intake! (Fish is usually healthy, but not this kind. Find out why with this book.)
• Pizza Hut doesn’t want you to know that a standard pizza in Italy contains 500 to 800 calories, but the same meal at Pizza Hut can top 2,100 calories! (You’d need to ride a stationary bike for more than three hours to burn off this mistake. Instead, eat all the pizza you want by making smart choices. EAT THIS, NOT THAT! shows you how.)
• Macaroni Grill doesn’t want you to know that a single serving of their Grilled Teriyaki Salmon has more than three times your daily allowance of sodium! (Cut your risk of high blood pressure by making smart choices at the same restaurant. You’ll find them inside.)

If only you knew the industry secrets, you could eat at any of your favorite restaurants—or chow down on everything from the company vending machine to your kids’ Halloween buckets—and know that every decision you made was smart, healthy, and the best possible choice for you. For example, did you know:
• At McDonald’s, an Egg McMuffin® is actually a healthy choice, with just 300 calories. (The Hotcakes pack more than double that amount!)
• At Krispy Kreme, all you need to do is order the Very Berry Chiller instead of the Mocha Dream Chiller, and you’ll save 500 calories! (Do that once a week and you’ll drop more than 7 pounds this year—without trying!)
• At Chipotle, you can cut 570 calories out of your Chicken Burrito just by ordering it as a bowl (without the tortilla) and asking them to hold the rice. (Same great taste, but with 94 fewer carb grams!)
• Choosing a cinnamon roll at Au Bon Pain over Cinnabon will save you 463 calories and 20 grams of fat!
• In the freezer section of your local supermarket, a turkey pot pie from Swanson’s has 610 fewer calories than a turkey pot pie from Pepperidge Farms.
• In the produce aisle, you’ll get twice the vitamin C—and nine times as much vitamin A—simply by picking red bell peppers over green ones. (Who said eating healthy was difficult?)

And that’s why EAT THIS, NOT THAT! is going to change everything. It’s time to level the playing field. We’re all tired of sneaky calories adding to our waistlines, and having to starve ourselves or spend hours on the treadmill trying to burn off the damage. Now—for the first time—you’re in charge. With this simple illustrated guide to thousands of foods--along with the nutrition secrets that lead to fast and permanent weight loss--you’ll make the smartest choice every time!

For people who like to eat out (like me!) it clearly tells me how I can save literally hundreds of calories by eating “this” rather than “that.” It gives you suggestions for almost every fast food restaurant, some sit down restaurants and even things like candy, holiday feasts and so forth.  It was mind boggling how many calories are in certain things and how by changing from a 5 piece chicken select to a quarter pounder can actually save you calories.  Seriously, who knew that a quarter pounder was like 200 calories less than the chicken selects?  It isn’t about giving anything up, it was just about making healthier choices.  For example - did you know that a Krispy Kreme glazed donut was like 150 calories less than a Dunkin Donut glazed donut??  It is a fabulous book that you should keep in your car so that you make the right fast food and restaurant choices!

So, if you are a person who likes to eat out then I definitely recommend this book to you smile Hope everyone has a fabulous day!

Weigh Ins on this topic

I did a post a while back about some of the fast food shockers. That whole BK Big Fish thing shocked the hell out of me when I found it.

Excellent post here woman.

Hello. I am still here. Just busy and not feeling like I have much to say lately. Will try to do better. smile

I don’t eat out much, but that book definitely sounds handy for a person who does. Good find Erin.

(peeks out of her cave)

Hi. I’m here...hiding. Major major upheavals in my life lately, nothing bad necessarily but definitely turned me upside down. My schedule has been altered (stupid time differences). Sleep? What? I’ve compensated with Starbucks & Dr. Pepper which in turn leads to eating out/junk food which leads to major crashes, being lethargic and missing the gym.

Hmm...does anyone ELSE see a pattern here. /smacks forehead

I’ll be back on track by next week if not quicker. There are still major changes in my future...or at least I’m hoping there will be...but hopefully I can handle them better. If nothing else they should contribute to a normal schedule again.

It has been quite a while since I have been here.  Sorry, I have just still been having medical issues which has derailed me from my weight loss and thinking about what I am eating.  I had to take prednisone for a little while and bam 10 lbs just like that.  I am trying to get it together again, but really don’t feel like even thinking about it.  I have got to get a plan together that is super easy and health....

Yea, I’ve been holding steady, even though I workout 5 days a week. 1-1.5 hours. 4.5 miles a day, sometimes 4 miles on the bike, 4 miles on the treadmill. I’m waiting for my ship to come in. It’s gonna start melting off here pretty soon.

Alright, Alright I’ll stop hiding…

I have been in a funk and not wanting to bring anyone down with me.  Stupid medication has me retaining water and I look and feel bloated.

I am pulling myself out of the funk slowly and not looking forward to WI on Friday at all. The good news is I am off the medications as of yesterday so we’ll see what happens.

Great tips, and I will have to look into “Eat this Not That.” Sounds like a practical and useful book.

DH bought me that book a while ago and I love it!  I just wish we lived where it would be even more useful.

Big News:  I was asked to join the AF Cycling Team as a rider for RAGBRAI this year!  I am so excited and now really have a reason to train. Now, the bike will really come in handy!

I’m still here… and still struggling with my fatness.  Actually it’s not really a struggle… I’m still. exactly. the. same. weight. - no change.

I haven’t been doing anything to lose so I don’t feel worthy of piping up around here.

Good post today Erin.  I don’t eat-out so the book won’t do me much good, but I know there are a lot of out-eaters that would benefit from something like that… especially if it was sitting next to them on the passenger seat of the car as they roll through their next drive through.
