Bumps in the Road
You all know that I have had a rough couple of weeks in the weight loss department. Due to these bumps in my road, I sort of lost sight of what the heck I was doing this for. I forgot all the good that has been coming my way as a result of my hard work for the past few months. I forgot about dropping from a size 18 to a 12 being baggy on me. Yes. I am pathetic. Well, I was pathetic.
I have given myself a once over...for the third or fourth time. I forget how many “re-evaluations” I actually have done. I think that everyone needs it from time to time. Regardless, I think I found the root of my troubles though. I hate exercise. I really hate it. It is always like a chore to me. Gotta put on the right shoes. Gotta get out the things you need..and lets not even discuss the time management thing. So, aside from my very paid for TKD classes that all my friends attend, I can easily push things off. I always swear it’s to get other things done. You know, mom duties, laundry, work...whatever. I just slack.
I was doing the couch 2 5k thing. I seriously was doing it. But then...it bored me to tears. I mean hellooo, how boring is a treadmill walk for 30 minutes. Still, I was doing it. But when life got crazy, guess what I kicked out first. Nope, wasn’t my sun time. I know. I REALLY suck.
In any case, I am now refueled. I am dedicating myself to 3 workouts per week at home. Possibly more but definitely nothing less. If I feel up to doing more, I will but I swear that I won’t do any less. No matter what. I really feel that I need to just get the habit happening. Get back on track with my whole “move my bod” thing. I am going to do whatever exercise I feel like doing when the day rolls around. I am also thinking that those daily work outs posted right here on this site look like a great place for me to start. Even if I wind up doing it at 11 pm at night. I just need to do it. Dedicate and accomplish. 28 days to make a habit. So by the end of the first week in May, I will be a work out diva once again. Any of you couch potatoes want to take the 3 day pledge with me? Drop a comment and let us know that you are in. We will wave our pompoms proudly for you.
PS If you haven’t already done so, go vote for us for the BCA’s. Cute little button in the side bar. We made it to the front page as of Monday evening. I know with everyone’s help, we can hit the top 3. Thanks.

Weigh Ins on this topic
I used to hate to exercise as well until I found a few tricks. First, I became a fitness instructor at a local gym. Nothing like getting paid to work out plus, I HAVE to be there. I cannot let my “students” down. Second, i started introducing fitness challenges at work. i even got the boss to back up my challenges. Anyone who completed a challenge, earned a one day pass from work. Our first months challenge was to run, walk or hike 75 miles in one month. The next month we did 150 miles biking, and so on. in the month of March, we attempted 100 miles in 20 days plus 500 push ups and 500 sit ups. During the month of april, we are trying for 1500 minutes (25 hours) of physical activity (running, strength training, biking, swimming, etc).
I have also found some podcasts (FREE!) to listen to. There is one specifically designed for couch 2 5K with music and prompting (no more looking at your watch). And Nike Sport Music (on iTunes) gives you prompted workouts to modern music. There are do-anywhere workouts, improving speed, distance, etc.

Queenie, I think you are on the right track. The important thing is that you do something. If the C25K thing bores you to tears, then find something else. Flexibility in when you work out and what you do can really help. If you planned on weights, but you don’t feel like it, do a yoga workout or go for a walk. Just get moving on a regular basis.
When I first started trying to exercise regularly, 3 times a week seemed like quite a feat. But it does become a habit if you stick with it and eventually you may find you miss it if you aren’t exercising regularly.

Gypsie - I LOVE LOVE LOVE the challenge idea. I am now trying to figure a way that we can do those here at OWW. How cool. And ummm...why have you not linked up those podcasts????
Java - I have TKD twice and soon to be three times per week again. (I keep saying that I am going to do a video documentary of one of our classes so you all can see how damn much we sweat.) I just want to get in 3 more at home. 3 more somethings.

I am bad, I haven’t worked out since I got home from vacation.
I am waiting on a phone call this week for my personal trainer to set up my times and I seem to be using that as an excuse not to go.
Right now my mouth is jacked up due to some work that must be finished on Monday. So I am trying to figure out how to eat soft yet healthy when all I want is a milkshake, pudding and other soft junk foods.

While I am at work and unable to do too much surfing, here is a website from Austraila that lists about 4 different Couch to 5K podcasts: http://c25k.com/
If you would like more ideas on challenges (I started them in Sep 07 here at work), let me know. I know for a fact that not only has it gotten me doing more but also my coworkers. A little competitiveness doesnt hurt. By the way, we just have a little excell tracking sheet that everyone adds what they have done to.
