My boyfriend and I finished our 5-day trip to Seattle, and now we are in current, "house-hunt" mode. I really, really wanted this place that came with a gym - but I read a bunch of reviews and 9+ were scathing! I was so mad about that!

We are seeing a place tonight, and it has a big yard - should I run around it like a dog? haha I used to work out really well - but that was on a machine. With my body-type, I feel like my weight should be around 160. My bmi says I should be 154, but I think 160 would be an amazing weight for me. Right now I'm about 180...almost my heaviest, which was 188 when I was in high school. I'm 24 now, and I lost 25 pounds in college, but I'm slowly gaining it back!

So yeah, I'm super motivated, but what should I do? I can't exactly join a gym now (no job yet) but how should I work out? I guess I'm at start...which can be scary. We'll see...

I have returned from the Des Moines Registers Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) with the Air Force Cycling Team (AFCT). On 18 Jul 08, Team Lackland drove 17 hours to Iowa for the opportunity to ride our bicycles across Iowa. 20 Jul was day 1 of our 471 mile journey. On day 1, we rode from Missouri Valley to Harlan, about 58.9 miles. We tent camped in Harlan that night. About 2am, we heard this announcement, " ATTENTION RAGBRAI RIDERS, THE STORM WILL ARRIVE IN 30 MINUTES. THE EMERGENCY SHELTERS ARE OPEN. WINDS UP TO 80 MPH ARE EXPECTED." The first thing everyone did was grab their bikes, and put them in the enclosed trailer. Then we all popped our tent poles to flatten the tents so they wouldnt blow away. We then walked about a block to the emergency shelter. AFter about an hour we were given the all clear. Now it is after 3am. We set our tents back up and go back to bed. About 530am, you start to hear people getting up for the day. This is Century Day, where we will ride 97.4 miles. In this next town, a little old lady opened her home to the women on the AFCT and allowed us to take showers. Day 3 is easy 56.8 mile ride from Jefferson to Ames. Ames is a college town and we all got dorm rooms for the night, with hot showers right on the floor we were sleeping on! Day 4, we are well rested for our 77.9 mile journey to Tama-Toledo. Here we camped in the front yard of another lovely woman, who also opened her home to us for showers. She left for the day and night and allowed us to sleep in her living room while she was away. That was nice because when we got up the next morning, it was cold, wet and we had a head wind for the entire 76.2 miles. This was the most miserable of days because at this point I am sore! and my legs just wont warm up. When we finally get to North Liberty, we hop in a vehicle and go see a friend's mom. mom let us take warm showers and she fed us! Day 6 was a beautiful ride of only 64.1 miles. Amazing how after riding so many miles, that even a 65 miler seems short. And then on the final day, which was a super easy 52.7 miles, the AFCT met about 2 miles out of town. There we lined up by two, and had a police escort into the town for the final ceremony of RAGBRAI. The AFCT was the parade.

It was an awesome expirience and I cannot wait to do it again next year!

LiveStrong Across America (http://www.livestrongacrossamerica.com) is a group of guys that decided to ride their Bicycles across America to raise money for cancer research. They started on 1 Jul 08 in San Diego Ca and plan to arrive Washington DC on 3 Aug 08. Last night they rolled into my town, San Angelo, TX. This morning, I joined them on their ride to the next city on their route, Brady TX. They were riding about 75 miles and I completed 45 with them. It was a blast! I was the only girl on the ride but so far my town has had the largest showing of cyclists riding with them. We are also the first town to have cyclists ride all the way to the next destination. I am proud of my town and the cyclists in it! If you check out the guys blog on their website, you should see me, since I was the only girl riding and all!

        Hi Everyone!!

I've been creeping around the site for a while, so I figured it was high time to start actually talking to people!

Anyway, about me:

I'm an American living in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I moved here a year ago, and started on my healthy lifestyle kick around the same time. Reasons? I had just graduated from college, and I was desperate to get rid of the weight I had gained during school. Also, I was on a super tight budget because I was working for a program that advocated "simple living" and I knew I would HAVE to walk everywhere, which seemed like a good way to start an exercise program.

I hate scales, so I haven't weighed myself this whole year. However, I have dropped 3 full jeans/dress sizes, and I monitor my resting heart rate and my waist-hip ratio.

Stats:
Height: 5'3"
Age: 23 on 7/9/08
Resting Heart Rate: 64 (At my worst, it was 90)
Waist-Hip Ratio: .8 (At worst, around 1)
Jeans size: US 8 (once in a while, I get away with a 6, but not really. ; At worst: US 14)

Fun fact: I'm a total geek, so I read this blog while doing my warm up cardio every day.

So that's all the stuff about me.

I'm so excited by what everyone is doing and accomplishing! It's great to read about people who are so into healthiness, especially after a year in a country whose national dish is the Ulster Fry! (For the uninitiated, an Ulster Fry consists of two/three fried eggs, fried Irish-style bacon, fried sausage, fried tomatos and mushrooms, fried potato bread and fried soda bread. And that's just a regular fry. It comes in LARGE. Scary stuff.)

Hi everyone! I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. My name is Elle and I'm 24 - a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison art history graduate program. I'm moving to Seattle to be with my long distance boyfriend of 2 years.

Here are my stats:

Height: 5'7"
Weight: 180

My friends don't believe me when they say I weigh that much, and I think it's mostly because I have huge thighs and a big butt - kind of like Kim Kardashian. If you don't know who she is, here's a photo:

http://mediaoutrage.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/kim-kardashian-grey_1_1.jpg

My boyfriend is pretty active and thin, and I know he weighs 155 (yikes for me!!) but he thinks that he weighs more than I do. I would DIE if he ever knew I weighed 25lbs more than him.

I love to make excuses - but I always stick to goals once I set them...and I stick to excuses as well. I have a vision of myself working out and eating super healthy when I move to Seattle. My boyfriend is Italian, exercises a lot and eats amazingly healthy naturally. We don't eat that much meat and we eat salads a lot (when we're together...which isn't that often.)

So...I'm using my move as a way to totally change my habits. I'm realistic - I know it takes work, but I'm a protestant German - I know how to buckle down and get it done. I am pushing to live in this apartment building that has a 24-hour gym, and we're going to eat together a lot, which means healthy eating. When I was 19, I worked at a place that had a gym, and during my lunch break I would run 2-3 miles and do some light strength training. I loved that then...I was running 8 miles an hour up an incline. I want that back!

For some reason - I let my current life dictate my exercise. I don't know what it is. I know I should start now, and I WILL. I'm going to start a simple food journal (just in my Moleskin) and I'm going to be more active outside...before I move to Seattle (July 15th).

My goal:

160lbs by December 24th.

That's reasonable, right? I am making that the date because I'm visiting my family back in Wisconsin for Christmas. I want to feel happy and healthy when I come back. I feel like I'm escalating my weight. I pretty much stayed at 172 lbs through college, that being my metabolic weight without working out and with eating relatively healthy. I wrote my master's thesis from February to May and sat EVERY DAY FOR HOURS in the library. I was soooo sedentary. I hate that. I need to change. I hope this place remains a great spot to discuss my progress.

Sorry for such a long first entry. Thanks for reading this far.
Elle

Erin and I love receiving comments from our readers. the good and the bad. It teaches us things about ourselves that we sometimes don't see. Sometimes, the mail is full of happiness and love. We LOVE getting those emails a lot. More often times, we receive what we commonly refer to as hate mail. THOSE are the entertaining ones for us. Yep, we share them with our families. We pass them back and forth between the two of us. Mainly so we can each keep on top of the things happening here on the site.

We decided that it wasn't fair to keep that kind of entertainment a secret. So, we will be removing the names of the senders of course but Yep, we will be posting those emails here for everyone to see. When we have actually taken the time to rely to an email, we will post that as well. If you don't want to read them, don't view them. If you don't want us to share your love and hate for what we have happening here on this site, don't send us mail. It's as simple as that. Otherwise, enjoy the show.
